Reading , Writing, Listening and Speaking Skills- are the basic requirements of a professional to be successful. Interview is nothing but a platform to Pre judge whether a candidate will be suitable for a given job or academic environment - where he or she will be frequently exposed to highly sophisticated and high profile professionals, so these basic skills are the prerequisites in the selection process.
In general we do practice a lot of Reading in our academic course but those patterned way of reading may not be adequate for meeting the needs of a professional life or for higher studies. In this process of selection an aspirant gets an opportunity to get an exposure to complex paragraphs which in turn helps him or her in future to furnish his successful professional and academic career.
During our school life, we wrote essays, letters, reports but most of the cases we blindly followed the pattern from the books specially in terms of language and vocabulary . It was not mandatory to use a range of grammar or vocabulary. We mainly focused in framing correct sentences. But in case of an interview which involves writing a candidate needs to compete with intellectuals and majority of them are experienced and quite efficient .So one needs to be very proficient in terms of using one's outstanding composing skills in order to get through.
Listening preparation sounds peculiar- a lay man might predict it judges one's capability of hearing. But in actual reality it scrutinizes the active listening skills of a candidate . One needs to understand it very clearly . What does it signify when we talk about active listening- It is nothing but Concentrating on what a speaker is focusing or harping at. We also need to understand why it is important- It helps a candidate to develop a skill of a controlled behaviour . When we are in a professional environment , we may not like some person but we are not supposed to ignore someone just because of our personal likings or dis likings. So if the topic of discussion is not at all interesting to one - one is supposed to develop an active listening skill in order to avoid confusion.
When it comes to speaking , we can say that we all are capable of speaking and representing ourselves in front of a stranger. However , we need to further modify our proficiency in terms of speaking to the point. One needs to judge a speaker's capability to convince others only when one listens to that speaker. So a candidate in an interview situation must judge an interviewer first before initiating and proceeding with the conversation. If not by directly asking some questions which might sound ridiculous one can judge the facial expression and body language of an interviewer. This is important because the interviewer is the person who will award us with marks so if he or she is not satisfied a candidate in turn can never succeed. In general we should adopt some common strategies like
- Speaking to the point
- Understanding the question clearly and stick to the topic asked for
- Clarify with the interviewer again and again if one is in the right track
