The layer of air that surrounds the Earth is called the Atmosphere.
It is a mixture of gases , dust and water vapour.
The word Atmosphere is derived from the word "atmos" which means "vapour".
The gravitational force of the Earth holds the atmosphere around it.
Use of Atmosphere
- It provides the life giving gas Oxygen and exhale Carbon di oxide.
- it acts as a blanket and keeps the Earth warm by trapping the heat that radiates from the Earth.(terrestrial radiation)
- It protects life from harmful rays and the scorching heat of the Sun.
